What are SPORTING-SAILS?

SPORTING-SAILS are most enjoyed when deployed in downhill sports such as skateboarding (longboarding), skiing and snowboarding as a simple and effective way to manage speed, stability, style and safety on ALL types of ski and board set-ups. Using a SPORTING-SAIL is an experience in itself and enables riders to examine their quiver and skill-sets in a whole new way. Explore what the wind has to offer, be seen, experiment with friends, inspire others and have fun!

Why are SPORTING-SAILS better for the environment?

With a SPORTING-SAIL, less is needed and more is saved. For those who choose to sail down mountains use less friction to save on wheels and shoes. Slides are always optional and foot-braking never exists. SPORTING-SAILS is a contributing member of 1% for the Planet. For more information about what we do to save the earth, click here.

Can I slide and deploy with a SPORTING-SAIL?

Stand-up slides can be performed with no problems or limitations to the natural movements of the rider - click here for photo. Deploying the SPORTING-SAIL while a stand-up slide is being executed facilitates a new feeling of control. It also allows beginners and experts to train and practice before attempting runs with or without a SPORTING-SAIL. Deploying and sliding requires skill regardless of what equipment is being used. As riders grow older, deployment techniques can allow for longer, steeper and more controlled runs with less bodily-harm resulting from foot-braking and sliding techniques by keeping hands and feet off the street for the entire downhill experience.

Can the SPORTING-SAIL pull you forward like a sail or wind kite?
Yes. Click here for video demo.

Can a SPORTING-SAIL be affected by wind and variable weather conditions?

As in any sport, wind and weather affects everything. Learn to scope out appropriate spots according to weather patterns and be mindful of Mother Nature before sporting your sail. If it is too windy in one spot, then try another - or perhaps use your imagination have the sail pull you forwards? The decision is yours to know what is safe and reasonable. Unapproachable scenarios deemed too steep during a calm and pleasant day become completely transformed on a windy day with the SPORTING-SAIL. Harnessing wind and air provides the rider with that extra "lift" to help  maintain stability and control.

How can I care for my SPORTING-SAIL?

We encourage riders finished sporting to please fold the SPORTING-SAIL and nicely put back into the SPORTING-SACK. Once put away, the SPORTING-SACK is designed to loop through a belt or clip for easy, out-of-the-way transport. Be mindful of its presence at all times. Please avoid stepping on, touching or dragging the SPORTING-SAIL on any surface for excessive amounts of time. Make the SPORTING-SAIL your own and treat it with care.

BUILT FOR LIFE - Every SPORTING-SAIL is hand-made to the highest quality standards using the best materials and production processes available. If you are not satisfied with your SPORTING-SAIL at the time you receive it, or if it does not sport to your satisfaction, simply return it to us for a refund. Any damage due to natural wear and tear will be repaired free of charge. Just send in your sail and we will take care of it. No questions asked. Specs and safety, click here.

How can a SPORTING-SAIL manage speed and stability?

A SPORTING-SAIL utilizes air resistance to manage speed and stability. Acting much like a modular parachute or a set of wings, the SPORTING-SAIL is easy to control at will by pulling the hand-straps up, over, down or out. Having total control during the entire descent makes steeper and more challenging terrain accessible for ALL types of set-ups. Experimental deployment techniques (as depicted in our videos) is encouraged as a way to better understand the many benefits a SPORTING-SAIL has to offer. We encourage our riders to go fast in their downhill sports with or without a SPORTING-SAIL, but pride ourselves on the precise ability to slow down the experience to read and remember various lines - time after time!

Why is it important to be seen?

Color is functional & safe. Heightening visibility to others is important in high risk situations. For this reason, we encourage riders to be bold, responsible, stay in their lane and deploy around blind corners. Be aware of your surroundings and alert traffic and others you are coming by standing tall, extending arms outward and slowing down with the SPORTING-SAIL fully deployed.

Can a SPORTING-SAIL pull the user off his/her skateboard?

Concerns about the drag being so strong as to pull the rider's legs off their skateboard, or jerking the rider's arms out of their sockets and cause injury to joints, were addressed in great detail throughout the years of developing and engineering the patented design. It allows air to pass between the legs without that same air billowing into and filling the SPORTING-SAIL; therefore the only amount of air entering the SPORTING-SAIL is dictated by how high or low the rider’s arms are raised - including not deploying at all. There has never been an issue where a rider has been "yanked off" a skateboard through the use of a SPORTING-SAIL. It is important to read and understand the warning label on the SPORTING-SAIL's lower straps before operating.

Can a SPORTING-SAIL get caught under a skateboard wheel?

Though it is a rare occurance this would ever happen, it can be avoided by pulling the sail up and around one’s shoulders. Be mindful and responsible of the SPORTING-SAIL's presence at all times. Do not step on it. Treat it with care. To better understand how the SPORTING-SAIL works, it is best to "feel-out" the SPORTING-SAIL with a comfortable, cruise run before attempting steeper and faster terrain.

What speed works best for a SPORTING-SAIL?

It is recommended to stay within the speed range of 15-30mph. Do not rely on the SPORTING-SAIL as an emergency braking device in high-speed situations that exceed 30mph. The SPORTING-SAIL is for fun and convenience and should not replace skills acquired through patience and practice. It is important for the rider to examine their limitations before attempting a sport with or without a SPORTING-SAIL and should not expect a SPORTING-SAIL to work as a "safety net" if a split-second mishap was to occur.

Why do I see a variety of colored SPORTING-SAILS on the website and online but can only purchase red/white?

Some of the SPORTING-SAILS seen in videos and photos are from the early proto-typing phases and field-tests that occurred over the last 3+ years. In the future, multi-hued SPORTING-SAILS will be available and custom SPORTING-SAILS will be available upon special request.

Can I ride/jump from a chairlift or drive/ride a snowmobile or other vehicle with my SPORTING-SAIL still affixed to my body?

No.

Can serious downhill skateboarders, snowboarders and/or skiers use the SPORTING-SAIL and still be cool and have fun?

Of course - anything is possible! Serious or not, cool or not - the SPORTING-SAIL is just another way of enjoying and celebrating the fun in sports.

Why are they referred to as "SPORTING-SAILS," when they really appear to be "SPORTING-CHUTES" and/or "SPORTING-KITES"?

No reason at all. We liked the name and kept it.
